Pilot Training Reimbursement Scholarship

The Giving Dreams Wings Scholarship was created with one purpose in mind—to invest in future aviators and support them as they pursue their aviation dreams.

The Spencer Flight & Education Center (SFEC) Pilot Training Reimbursement Scholarship is designed to support pilots who demonstrate commitment, discipline, and successful completion of key FAA certification milestones. This scholarship reimburses eligible applicants after they have successfully passed an approved FAA knowledge or practical test. Apply for reimbursement today and turn your achievement into momentum for your next flight milestone.

Eligible Reimbursement Milestones

Applicants may apply for reimbursement after passing one of the following FAA tests:

Private Pilot

  • Private Pilot FAA Knowledge Test

  • Private Pilot Practical Test (Checkride)

Instrument Rating

  • Instrument Rating FAA Knowledge Test

  • Instrument Rating Practical Test (Checkride)

Commercial Pilot

  • Commercial Pilot FAA Knowledge Test

  • Commercial Pilot Practical Test (Checkride)

Scholarship Award

  • Amount: Up to $1,100 per applicant (set by SFEC)

  • Type: Reimbursement only

  • Payment Timing: Issued after verification of passing results and expenses

Eligible Expenses

Reimbursement may be used for:

  • FAA knowledge test fees

  • Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) fees

  • Aircraft rental associated with the checkride

  • Instructor fees directly related to the test

(Expenses must be directly tied to the passed milestone)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Successfully pass one of the listed FAA tests

  • Submit proof of passing (score report, temporary certificate, or endorsement)

  • Provide receipts showing out-of-pocket payment

  • Submit a completed SFEC scholarship application

  • Be a current member of SFEC, verified by administrator

  • Provide proof of Kansas Residency in the form of a government-issued I.D.

Application & Review

  • Applications are reviewed by the SFEC Scholarship Committee

  • Reimbursement will not exceed documented expenses or the maximum award amount

  • Awards are subject to available funding

  • Awards limited to 1 per category to include dates Jan. 1 – Jan. of each year

  • Submission does not guarantee reimbursement

Terms & Conditions

  • Reimbursements are non-transferable

  • Funds may only be used for approved aviation training expenses

  • SFEC reserves the right to verify documentation

  • False or incomplete submissions may result in denial

Congratulations to Breck Averoff, Cimarron, and Cordell Brown, Wallace, our 2024 scholarship recipients.

Breck and Cordell were each awarded a $2,000 SFEC matching flight training scholarship and are both currently working on their private pilot certificates. The SFEC is thrilled to have an opportunity to be part of their aviation journey!
